Upcoming NSF REU at UC Santa Cruz

Selected for a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in the Radiological Instrumentation Laboratory at UC Santa Cruz under Professor Shiva Abbaszadeh.

Overview

Selected to participate in an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) hosted by UCSC’s Materials Research Laboratory, working in the Radiological Instrumentation Laboratory under the mentorship of Professor Shiva Abbaszadeh.

The project focuses on alloyed amorphous chalcogenide semiconductor materials for high-performance UV and X-ray photodetectors.

Research Focus

Research investigates how modifications to amorphous selenium and related materials can improve detector performance, including:

  • UV and X-ray detection sensitivity
  • Charge carrier transport properties
  • Device stability and reliability
  • Photodetector response behavior

Planned Activities

  • Semiconductor device fabrication
  • Thin-film deposition techniques
  • Electrical and optical characterization
  • Data analysis and visualization
  • Scientific presentations and reporting

Status

This page will be updated throughout the summer with research progress, experimental results, and final presentation materials.
